To explore diverse cultures and traditions during the winter holiday season, Four Corners Elementary staff hosted a Festival of Lights for kids and families.
Students illuminated the dark hallways with tea light candles (battery operated to be safe!), as they strolled into classrooms decorated with colorful lights. Inside the classrooms, families enjoyed craft and literacy activities created to expose families to winter holidays from around the world.
This year Christmas traditions in the Philippines, the USA, Mexico and Scandinavia were highlighted. Plus, there were presentations on traditions of Kwanzaa and Hanukah as well. All the holidays have the common thread of spreading light into the dark winter months.
As the “icing on the cake” to this community event, attended by over 500 kids and their parents, families got to decorate (and eat!) cookies in the cafeteria.
